Dogs Die in Hot Cars

Good Afternoon

Following an increase in reports, Hertfordshire Constabulary alongside the RSPCA are reminding all residents that Dogs Die in Hot Cars unfortunately despite what should be common sense we are still receiving reports during the summer months of dogs being left in parked cars, usually around public parks, supermarkets, swimming pools and pubs.

Although windows being slightly lowered may provide some minor ventilation it does not reduce the internal temperature that even at 20 degrees Celsius within as little as 10 minutes the temperature can rise to 32 degrees Celsius.

If a dog appears in distress or to be suffering from heatstroke (excessive panting, drooling, vomiting) please call 999 as we have specific powers to force entry to alleviate animals suffering. Please ensure to obtain the number plate so we can make enquiries as to the vehicle owner and to locate them should they leave before we arrive.

Please remember that although your dog may look sad when you leave them to head out on a warm day, they'll survive without a daily walk but they wont in a hot car.
